Poggio a Caiano
Set among the gentle hills between Florence and Prato, Poggio a Caiano is a small Tuscan town with an exceptional historical heritage, closely linked to the Medici family and the origins of Renaissance architecture.
Its most important landmark is the magnificent Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano, commissioned by Lorenzo de’ Medici at the end of the 15th century and designed by Giuliano da Sangallo. Surrounded by gardens and overlooking the surrounding countryside, the villa is considered one of the earliest and most influential examples of Renaissance residential architecture and today forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Medici Villas and Gardens in Tuscany.
The presence of the Medici shaped the identity of the area for centuries. Noble residences, historic estates, old farmhouses and cultivated land still characterise a landscape where architecture and countryside exist in natural harmony.
Poggio a Caiano offers the tranquillity of a small Tuscan town while remaining strategically positioned between Florence and Prato. The surrounding countryside is marked by olive groves, vineyards and gently rolling hills, creating a peaceful setting just a short distance from important cultural centres and everyday services.
Life here retains an authentic and relaxed character. Traditional restaurants, local produce and nearby wineries reflect the strong connection between the area and the agricultural traditions of Tuscany.
For those seeking privacy and space without giving up proximity to Florence, Poggio a Caiano represents an attractive balance between history, countryside and accessibility.
